No alarm clock today.
Maybe that’s why I open my eyes and it’s already 11.46 a.m.
It was a nice night last night. Quiet, but in the end it was still New Year’s Eve and I made it 4.
It’s raining outside. You can hear the noise even with the window and shutters still closed.
I should go for a run. On the schedule there would be a slow hill.
Shivers. It feels so good under the blankets.
I decide to wait, maybe it will stop in the afternoon.
Tonight I am out to dinner. I don’t have time to have both breakfast and lunch.
If I don’t want to run on an empty stomach I must necessarily opt for brunch. Breakfast and lunch together.
I get up and put something in my stomach, absent-mindedly replying to the various greetings.
The sofa is the ideal place to enjoy the first coffee of the year.
I then go back to bed, as if kidnapped.
Time passes and I don’t realise it.
It is now afternoon and it hasn’t stopped raining for a moment.
Time is running out. Either I go out anyway, or goodbye to the first race of 2020.
But I don’t feel like leaving the first training box of the year empty.
I opt for a medium run of about ten kilometres. The slow hill will save it for another occasion.
I get dressed and put on an old white hat with a little visor to protect my face from the rain.
I leave the house.
The warmth vanishes at the door and gives way to water and gusts of wind.
The Garmin fortunately comes to my rescue and picks up the signal almost immediately.
I set off.
I run under the downpour and the wind is annoying.
However, the legs respond well and there is breath.
I try to avoid the puddles, but after 3 minutes my feet are already soaked.
The sky turns from dark grey to pink as the sun sets.
The sun wants to have its say on this first day of the year.
A rainbow shyly appears on the opposite side.
The road now turns in that direction. And it is impossible not to see it.
The tour is almost over.
I arrive home soaking wet, cold and tired.
But with a smile on my face.
I open the door.
And, all of a sudden, I see clearly, in front of me, the reason for so much happiness.
My 2020 started with you.
And I couldn’t ask for better!
Happy New Year and happy racing to all!
