Coming next week are the brand new Edge 530 and Edge 830 from Garmin.
The two cyclecomputers will replace the previous models Edge 520 and Edge 820, retaining the main features but with many new features.
Let’s find out what’s new about the two cycle computers compared to the previous models and the differences between the two.
Larger display: the two Edge, while remaining light, streamlined and compact, have a 2.6″ screen compared to the 2.3″ screen of the previous Edge 520 and Edge 820 models. The two high-definition colour displays are push-button operated in the Edge 530 and touchscreen in the Edge 830.
New CPU: Compared to previous models, they have a faster and more powerful CPU.
New battery: Longer battery life with 20 hours of autonomy compared to 15 hours for previous models.
New MTB functions: Very important new features are definitely dedicated to mountain biking. Thanks to the new Flow function, the new Edge 530 and Edge 830 are able to assess riding and riding ability. With the Grit function, they measure the roughness of the terrain. Thanks to the integrated TrailForks map and the new analysis dynamics (time in flight, number and distance of jumps) Edge 530 and Edge 830 become the essential MTB tools.
Safety: the new Find my Edge function will allow you to locate your Edge on your smartphone while the Bike Alarm function will activate an acoustic sensor if your bike is moved.
Climbpro : thanks to the ClimbPro function, on a preloaded route, you can check how many climbs you have left until the end of the route, for how many kilometres and at what average gradient you still have to climb.
Altitude acclimatisation: by cross-referencing data from the GPS, temperature, weather (via Garmin Connect Mobile), altitude barometer, heart rate monitor and power sensor, the Edge 530 and Edge 830 are able to assess the Altitude Acclimatisation Coefficient.
There are basically two main differences between the two products.
Display: although both instruments are the same size, including the display, the Edge 830’s display is touchscreen.
Navigation: although both products have the Garmin Cycle Map preloaded, with the Edge 830 you have the option of navigation, from creating routes to finding addresses and POIs.
