Yes, despite the fact that summer is a time for holidays and more peace and quiet, the hot temperatures make themselves felt and rather seriously hamper our workouts.
Here are some useful tips for continuing to practice the most beautiful sport in the world while braving even the hottest summer sun!
- Go running early in the morning. By early we also mean 6am. Temperatures will certainly be more clement, you will have no traffic problems and you will start the day with an unprecedented positive charge. It is also interesting to have breakfast as a final reward. Try it to believe!
- Go for a run in the evening. From 7 p.m. onwards, the temperatures will start to drop, and although the sun may have been raging all day, you will feel much less uncomfortably hot. Combined with the fact that an evening jog is the best way to end the day!
- Go for a run in the mountains. If you have the chance to escape even temporarily to some mountain resort, take advantage of it! Cool temperatures, good air, the availability of pure water fountains and breathtaking landscapes. Don’t forget appropriate shoes!
- Go running in shady places with plenty of water fountains. Parks and gardens can do the trick.
- Go for a run by the sea. The first two caveats also apply here. With a necessary addition. What better reward than a nice, refreshing bath?
- Go for a run after one of the many thunderstorms that are characterising this crazy summer, taking advantage of significantly lower temperatures and cleaner air.
To these useful tips, we add a few other indications that should go hand in hand and be followed as much as possible. Like those in the news. Drink plenty of water, cool off often, avoid the hottest hours, prefer fresh, light food and lower the weekly mileage in any case. Shorter training sessions are better, but with good quality. Finally, it is a good habit to carry a water bottle, preferably a thermal one, or to memorise the geolocation of drinking fountains in your area, so that you can refresh yourself and always stay well hydrated!
Happy summer, happy holidays and happy running to all of you!
