How many of us have a Garmin GPS on our wrist and only use a small part of its functionality? For example… most Garmin sportwatches offer the possibility of creating workouts directly from the device, how many of you know how to use this function?
In this short article, we will briefly explain how:
if you own a Forerunner or Fenix, simply go to the ‘run’ profile, hold down the ‘up/menu’ button located centrally on the left side of your device, select the ‘training’ item from the menu, scroll down and select ‘repetitions’.
At this point you have to select ‘edit’, enter ‘repeat’ where you have several options… set the repeat by time (e.g. 1 minute), by distance (e.g. 1km) or ‘open’ (in the latter case you will have to stop the device at the end of your repeat).
The MioMio Run staff usually recommends using the repeat by distance, which is the function most runners use.
Let’s assume that you have selected a 400-metre repeat, at which point we must set the recovery, again we have the three possibilities time/distance/open. In this case we recommend setting the recovery by time (e.g. 1 minute recovery) or open, i.e. you decide when to start the next repeat by simply pressing the back/lap button in the bottom right-hand corner.
After setting the recovery all that remains is to decide how many repetitions to do, let’s say 5… so we will do the 400 metres five times with a recovery between each repetition of 1 minute.
Now you can decide whether you also want to set warm-up and cool-down, in which case it is always free and it is up to you to press the back/lap button at the end of the first phase to start the set repetition training.
Once you have finished setting up these last two steps, you will need to press the back/lap button… at the top you will find the ‘summary’ of your workout (5x 0.40km 1:00 rest), select ‘run workout’ and press the ‘start/stop’ button to start your repeats 🙂
Happy training!
