SAUCONY PEREGRINE 12: TRADITION AND INNOVATION
It must not have been easy at Saucony to design the new edition of a shoe capable of winning the favour of critics and, above all, consumers.
And yet, with the twelfth and latest version of the Peregrine, the most versatile (and best-selling) model dedicated to the world of trail running, we are faced with a skilful balance between tradition and innovation.
TRADITION
A winning team does not change.
That’s why the POWERTRAC, the high traction and grip rubber positioned on the sole, and the 5mm height of the studs remain unchanged.
Also identical are the 4 mm differential and the height of the heel (27 mm) and forefoot (23 mm).
Even the upper, although renewed in terms of colours and weave patterns, is substantially similar to that of the previous version, light and breathable, but protected at the points of greatest wear.
INNOVATION
The innovative aspects of the Saucony Peregrine 12 are valuable and by no means taken for granted.
Starting with themidsole, which features a major update of the traditional PWRRUN foam in terms of cushioning and lightness, combined with a 7mm thick adaptive insole in PWRRUN+, Saucony’s noblest and softest compound, which provides excellent cushioning and ground impact absorption.
Also renewed are the protective nylon rock plate, which is more flexible to better adapt to the roughness of the ground, and the arrangement of the cleats on the sole, which are more widely spaced to allow for faster expulsion of debris.
A significant weight loss completes the innovative profile, making the Peregrine 12 the lightest version ever (275g in the men’s model and 235g in the women’s).
AND SUSTAINABILITY?
For those who love the green aspects (we should all learn to be green sooner or later), Peregrine 12 represents a marked change from the past, with a significant percentage of recycled material making up the upper, cushioning and tongue.
IN CONCLUSION
The Saucony Peregrine 12 is an excellent example of how a company with a production focused mainly on excellent road models, manages to devise absolutely good trail solutions as well. Without, moreover, distorting its own nature.
This is certainly an example to follow that has a direct beneficiary: all of us who love trails and can therefore submit another technically and qualitatively valid model to our choice. The only drawback might be the slight price increase (5/10 €) compared to the previous version. An aspect that has unfortunately become commonplace in the delicate period we are currently experiencing.
