One year after the first closures, unfortunately almost nothing has changed. If 2021 was supposed to bring a breath of optimism and a general improvement in the situation, no concrete effect can be seen at the moment. Nevertheless, we have to hang on to something.
So at least we have achieved a small positive sign.
Running is ALWAYS allowed, even in the red zone!
But let’s go into detail about the differences between sporting activity in the red and orange zones.
RED ZONES AND ORANGE ZONES (but also yellow and white!)
Friday is definitely the day we most trepidatiously await, waiting to know the colour of our regions for the following weeks.
Obviously, in the white or yellow zone, the restrictions are more limited, with only the general indication not to go out of the region at the moment.
It is in the orange or red zone that we reach the greatest restrictions, with bans on travelling outside the municipality or even more limiting, with only the leaving of the house for proven needs.
Butsporting activity, in individual form, is ALWAYS PERMITTED!
WHAT CHANGES?
All the differences between the red zone and the orange zone and the provisions concerning the various DPCMs can be found here.
What we are interested in here, however, is the section dedicated to sporting activity and running in particular .
In essence, therefore, from this last point of view, we can say that nothing changes!
Let’s see why.
CAN I RUN?
Yes, running as a sporting activity is always allowed!
In both the orange and red zones.
And that’s the good news.
Let’s see what restrictions apply.
WHERE, HOW AND WHEN TO RUN?
The restrictions on running and sporting activity are in line with the general ones: you can run within your municipality of residence or domicile. In both red and orange zones. But there was also an important clarification from the government.
THE GOVERNMENT’S CLARIFICATION
In fact, the answer to one of the faqs on the government’s website is dated 24 December 2020, according to which in the red (and orange) zone it is also possible to travel to other municipalities while exercising a sporting activity, provided, of course, that it begins and ends in the same municipality.
This faq is still available by clicking on the government website, on the region of belonging and then in the section dedicated to travel.
OTHER LIMITATIONS
However, running and sporting activity in general should be practised individually and remember to maintain a distance of at least 2 metres between people.
There is always a curfew from 10pm to 5am: be careful if you are particularly early risers (or night owls!).
SELF-CERTIFICATION AND MASK?
They are not necessary!
Logically, we always use common sense and try not to go out in particularly crowded areas or in the company of our large group of friends/teammates.
MOTOR ACTIVITY OR SPORT?
Finally, it is good to remember the difference between motor activity and sporting activity.
By motor activity, we mean classic walking (or any other activity with low effort intensity). The WHO defines it as ‘any movement determined by the musculoskeletal system that results in an expenditure of energy greater than that of resting conditions’. It can be practised in the vicinity of one’s home, wearing a mask.
On the other hand, by sporting activity is meant, literally, ‘an institutionalised situation, codified in such a way as to be recognised and recognisable by all in terms of rules and mechanisms, to which reference is made for its practice in official or unofficial contexts.’
In essence, therefore, the gesture of running must be clearly recognisable and not subject to possible misunderstandings. And, possibly, develop an intensity higher than that of simple motor activity.
