Present in the best running shops for a few weeks now, the new Hoka Clifton 8 is once again a strong candidate for shoe of the year. As well as one of the most successful in the entire history of the French/Californian company. The reasons for this certificate? They are soon stated!
THE SPECIFICATIONS
The Hoka One One Clifton 8 weighs 250 grams in the men’s US 9 model and 215 grams in the women’s US 8 model. It has a differential (drop) of 5mm, resulting from the difference 29-24mm in the men’s version and 27-22 in the women’s. Here you will find all available men’s colours and numbers and here those for women!
WHAT HAS CHANGED
Compared to the previous Clifton 7 model(reviewed here), the space for the sole of the foot has been providentially enlarged, making the shoe also suitable for feet that are not too tapered. A change aimed at satisfying a greater number of runners, achieved thanks to the improved elasticity of the upper, which is still light and breathable.
Also changed is the tongue, softer and more padded, as if to cuddle the back of the foot.
The heel is better protected externally by the shell, on which useful reflective inserts have been applied for running in low visibility conditions.
Themidsole is also lighter and softer, providing all the cushioning necessary to cope with even the longest training sessions.
The geometry of the MetaRocker favours smoother and faster transitions, able to satisfy even the fastest pace enthusiasts.
Finally, the sole is completely redesigned, with greater use of rubber in order to offer greater traction and delay wear and tear as much as possible.
WHAT HAS NOT CHANGED
The insert above the heel has been confirmed, given its dual function of facilitating the fit and protecting the tendons.
Comfort and ease of running have always been the hallmark of Hoka and in particular of the Clifton.
As seen in the specs, the drop is always 5mm and this, together with the MetaRocker geometry, favours both a slow ride with a marked heel strike and a quicker, more agile ride due to the ease of transition.
IN CONCLUSION
With the new Hoka Clifton 8, we are faced with an evolution that in some respects is becoming more and more difficult, so few elements need to be perfected.
In spite of this, the Franco-Californian company has accustomed us over time to expect innovation, improvements and, in general, an innate ability to always seek the best solutions for the endless audience of runners it addresses. And, once again, it succeeds.
Clifton 8 is the ideal solution for runners and athletes of different weights, speeds and ambitions, but who all have in common their constant desire to run in comfort, softness and ease of footing.
A shoe that we feel obliged to recommend to all those who love running and the wonderful sensations that this model manages to transmit.
