Activities
Primary Fabric
4-way stretch polyamide fabric (235 g/m2) with PFC FREE water-repellent treatment. Ensures high resistance to tearing and abrasion. Thanks to the double weave structure slightly gauzed on the reverse side (double weave on the weft) it provides high comfort in contact with the skin. The PFC FREE DWR water-repellent treatment protects it from external moisture and rain: the fabric does not absorb water and dries quickly even after multiple washes. This special finishing ensures the absence of fluorinated compounds harmful to the environment. ANTIUV: UPF50+.
Secondary Fabric
PFC FREE CLOTHING. Traditional rain jackets repel water by means of synthetic compounds known as PFCs (perfluorocarbons). PFCs have been used for many years as Durable Water Repellent (DWR) surface treatments on outdoor clothing, equipment and footwear. This finish helps waterproof materials repel water and dirt. Without this invisible barrier, water and dirt would pass through the layers giving a damp and wet feeling, drastically reducing comfort. The chemical bond formed between fluorine and carbon, found in PFCs, is one of the strongest chemical bonds known to date. For this reason, PFC does not rapidly degrade in the environment; traces of it have been found to accumulate in animals and even in humans. This problem, concerning the accumulation of this compound, can cause various effects on human and ecosystem health and has been the reason for many discussions between environmental groups and outdoor clothing companies. A key element in the persistence of PFC in the environment is the length of its chemical structure, or the number of carbon atoms in the structure. Historically, the outdoor clothing industries have used long-chain structured PFC (referred to as ‘C8’). In response to concerns about the environmental impact of PFC, major chemical manufacturers have developed shorter chain compounds (e.g. C6), which can be less persistent. Montura has replaced the DWR used in its entire outdoor clothing and footwear collection with the safer C6. That said, C6 DWR can still be dangerous for the environment, which is why some companies, including Montura, have committed to finding alternatives that are healthier for the ecosystem, so PFC FREE DWR treatments have been developed. All outdoor brands are aware that PFC-free DWR alternatives do not have the same durability and performance as their C6 and C8 predecessors. Montura has selected the best performing PFC Free DWR versions available for its products to date. A PFC free* garment is intentionally made from materials free of water-repellent treatments based on PFC (perfluorocarbon) compounds. The outer fabrics are treated with an eco-friendly, PFC-free water-repellent finish: this is a non-fluorinated, plant-based treatment that provides lasting water repellency and is produced from 60 per cent renewable raw materials. * Product may contain traces of PFC.
